Week 2 - upping the miles November 19, 2007
Posted by balbert General Cardio, RunToday is the beginning of week 2 and the beginning of the mileage increase. today’s run went from 3 to 3.5 with the rest of the week the same as last.
with the holiday week might be a little off, and I might actually repeat week 2 next week.
Looks like my pace change is also helping. By running a little slower pace, I’m feeling more comfortable and although the run is hard by the end, it’s not like it’s impossible. In fact I think I could have easily run 4 miles today.
A lot to be said for working at your own pace. I understand this in yoga but coming from competitive running in school it’s a little hard not to go out and try to “win” the race.

End of Week 1 November 18, 2007
Posted by balbert General Cardio, Walktoday is the last day of the first week of the new training and that means a 40 min cross day. Took the dog for a long walk before the seahawks game and according to favoriterun.com it was just over 3.25 miles. Actually ended up doing more the 40 minutes of cross training given the walk probably took about an hour.

Upper Body Yoga November 13, 2007
Posted by balbert Flexibility, Strength Training, YogaToday’s yoga concentrated a lot on the shoulders, upper back and chest. Lots of modifications to promote opening the chest like a modified triangle with hands clasped behind the back before leaning forward into triangle.
of course i have such tight shoulders it was both a good class for opening but also extremely frustrating when i can barely straighten or pull my arms away from my back.
baby steps… life long practice… no cover of yoga journal for me

Upping the milage November 12, 2007
Posted by balbert Runbeen wanted to increase my distances so decided to start a new program and “train” for a 10k. I don’t have a race in mind, but just want to get up to running more distance. Currently i’m only doing 4 to 6 miles a week… basically 2 miles a day (m, w, f).
So first did some research on the net for some programs and found a training program from sweat365 and one from Hal Higdon’s site:
http://sweat365.com/library/training-plans/running/10k/beginning-runner/
http://www.halhigdon.com/10ktraining/10knovice.htm.
The schedules didn’t match up exactly with the time i have during the week. Basically I wanted to have my off days on Tuesday and Thursdays when I do Yoga. Thus came up with the following which seems reasonable.
Today is the first day and today’s run was the the longest I’ve done in a long while. Decided to take it a little slower and took my pace down from 5.9 on the treadmill to 5.5. I think I might be running a little too fast a pace for were I am as it was a much more comfortable run.
So we’ll see. Today was good and Monday’s always seem to be easier for me. Wed will be the test to see how i feel.

Exercise for Free July 29, 2007
Posted by balbert General Cardio, WalkSometimes it’s nice when regular activities count as “exercise”. Dad was in town and we all went to the Mariner’s game. I like to park at my work on the water front and then walk down to the stadium. sometimes we take the bus down and then walk back after, but this time, we decided not to wait for the bus and plus we needed to get down to the stadium early enough to get our free cap.
In the end with all the walking at to and from the game and taking the dog after dinner i got in just over 5 miles of walking.

Posted by balbert Uncategorizedwell i’ve missed the last two day’s workouts due to all day meetings. But I’ve definitely been working out the old head, thinking really hard. Trying to solve some of those complex computer things that seem easy on the surface but hard when you get into the details.

Walk’n the dog July 17, 2007
Posted by balbert General Cardio, Walkhadn’t spent some quality time with the pooch and she was wanting some Bob time (don’t they all). Tooled around the neighborhood for the usual and met an nice golden. Also found the neighbor’s cat that likes to go on walk about when they are gone. Picked him up and dropped him off a the house and he ran for the food bowl.
